EIMSKIP has ordered two Terex Gottwald mobile harbour cranes for Iceland

Eimskip Islands ehf., a leading and growing shipping company, operating in the entire North Atlantic, has ordered two Terex Gottwald model 6 mobile harbour cranes. The order brings the number of Terex Gottwald mobile harbour cranes presently operated by Eimskip to an impressive five units.

During the summer of 2015, the new cranes will be shipped from Europe to Iceland on a heavy lift vessel, fully assembled and tested, ready for operation when arriving at their destinations.

One crane will be placed at Reydarfjordur on Iceland’s east coast, where it will handle cargo for the local Alcoa Fjardaal aluminium factory, with which Eimskip has recently renewed another five to seven year stevedoring agreement.
The other crane will be operating at Eimskip’s terminal at Grundartangi, handling cargo for Nordural and Jernblendiverlag, greatly enhancing the cargo handling capability at this terminal and enabling gearless vessels to call the port.

Since Eimskip bought their first Gottwald crane in 1996, results have been excellent in terms of operational reliability, low service costs and overall profitability.
For vice-president Gudmundur Nikulasson and his team, the consistently positive experience with Terex Gottwald and with Port-Trade, who provides complete services, once more weighed clearly in favour of Terex Gottwald.

Like the existing Gottwald cranes, the new units will also be connected to an 11 kV external power supply, bypassing the on board diesel-generator and reducing energy costs to only one third. The basic concept of Gottwald diesel-electric drives makes connecting to an external power supply a simple and logical thing to do, also as a retrofit to existing Gottwald cranes. Payback time is usually 3-5 years.
